Gear shift shaft housing has been broke and repaired but the transmission shift shaft would not return on it's own with out moving the shift lever manually. This was done with out splitting the case and did not work out as well as planned.
Filler weld was pushed against the shifter shaft (look close at 8th picture). The back side of the blind hole that one of the shafts for the shift forks was cut into some, I do not believe this has any negative affect on the performance (look very close at the last 2 pictures). Shifter shaft seal needs replaced.
Gasket mating surfaces are good. Transmission bearings need cleaned or replaced.
The weld is very good on the repair. I put the other case half on and looked through both sides and the round aluminum tube appears to be in straight and square but I do not have a good undamaged shifter shaft to install to confirm that it moves freely but if it does it may just need some grinding on the inside of the case so the shaft can move freely and a new outer seal installed.
I have owned this ATC250R that this was removed from since it was new. I raced it from 1985 - 1988 and during that time it was used for racing only. It was used for recreational riding for 2 or 3 years after that and has not ran since.
